As part of BLUM’s investment in the future we again hosted several 2nd and 3rd year students of WEBS furniture training.
We welcomed 5 students who all have permanent jobs within the industry who were very excited to visit us here in Milton Keynes.
We began the day with a brief get together over a coffee, it was great to chat about expectations and give both students and trainers the chance to talk about themselves and the work they are doing. This was followed by a short history tour, and for this our showroom manager Amanda took over with her interesting tales of all things BLUM. The students got the chance to try the virtual reality headsets and experience the making of a hinge whilst travelling down a conveyor belt. This is the only time they are quiet!
Following on from this we spend spent about 30 minutes looking around our showroom, where the students can took inspiration and had opportunity to discuss and ask questions in an informal setting.
Following on from this we showcased the virtual world showroom where a room could be rendered in 3D and walked around, we all had a bit of fun and played a catch the ingredients game to much amusement.
We then broke for lunch and as usual the students did not struggle, but managed to finish most of the food off, we doubt anyone went home hungry at least. The students also discovered that Amanda makes a superb coffee to rival any shop bought one!
After lunch was spent in the technical room, where we demonstrated DYNAPLAN carcass planning software, after which we split them into two groups and took turns in building LEGRABOX drawers and AVENTOS HF lift systems.
To round off an enjoyable and fun day, we made sure no-one left empty handed, after raiding the BLUM goody cupboard!
If you are working within the industry and with young people and this sounds interesting, then please get in touch.
